At the MD Expo last year Don Hubbard, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for PartsSource, got a call at 8 p.m. from a colleague who had received a desperate request. A CT tube had gone down, and a hospital technician had been quoted an OEM price of $175,000 for the part. The technician wasn't happy about the price, but he had to have the machine up and running. "This was a high volume, critical care facility. At this point, his only option was to go with the OEM," said Hubbard. "We walked over to one of the suppliers we buy from that was also at the Expo, got their representative to make a call, and the part shipped and arrived at the hospital the next day where it was operational at less than 50 percent of the OEM cost."
